Ethan: (Achoo!) My ear hurts. I'll fix it with my water.
(He licks his finger and rubs his "water" all over his ear.) That's better.

Katelyn is starting to read, so Ethan hears her sounding out words. He has started doing his own reading... "t-t-t Ethan!" 11-28-11
Ethan's learning to negotiate. "Ethan it's time for your nap." "I need to play mom. Two minutes. Okay?" 9-8-11
Katelyn was talking to Abby on the floor. I thought she was singing the ABC's to her when she asked me what was after T. I told her it was U. No, Mom! My name doesn't have a U in it! Evidently, she was spelling her name. She said, "That would be Kate-you!" Oh my... is she understanding how this reading thing works? :) 6-10-11
The kids were laughing at their own jokes in the car last night. Katelyn would say that they need to show "Drawmpa and Drammie thier gwasses." I'm not sure why it was funny... but they repeated it for a good 15 minutes. That's the funny part. 3-20-11
Katelyn is so excited to see her new sister that she frequently asks, "When is she coming out?"
Ethan is a happy kid. Morning, night, whenever. In the morning he runs out of his room and as soon as he sees Dave or I, he exclaims, "Awake!" :)
"I ov oo." Melt my heart. That's Ethan's new phrase this week. 2-21-11
Driving toward a new bridge. "Look Mom, they made a bridge! That was so nice. They made it with blocks. No with squares and they glued it together like paper." 2-27-11
After trying to explain that the sky is really big and goes a long ways...
K: The sky is floating... like toys in the bathtub.
K: Look mom, the moon is melting. (When it's a crescent.)
Every morning...
K: Mom, is it wake-up time?
Katelyn's first joke...
We need to stop and get the mail.
K: Okay, is Mel going to be there? (Smiling) Melanie? (Her aunt)
(Then she busted up laughing because she thought the pun was so funny.)
Katelyn, did you know that Heavenly Father made the earth?
K: I haven't seen the earth.
It's everything we see. He made the mountains, the trees, the plants. And he even made the sky!
K: That's cool! Did he get a ladder?
:)
He also made people. He made you and me.
K: How'd he do that? Did he use blocks?
:)

This morning I told Katelyn and Ethan that we're going to some gardens with lots of grass that they can run around on. "You're going to be in heaven!" I said. Katelyn excitedly pipped in, "I'm going to see Jesus?!" Oh, the sweet innocence of my cute Katelyn. Dave and I are still smiling about it.

I was doing my hair in the bathroom when Katelyn came running in (she always runs), "My brother in the bathroom!" Uh-oh. Playing in the toilet? Bathtub? I started toward the other bathroom with Katelyn and Dave in tow. Outside the bathroom door I started calling to Ethan. "Ethan?" I was greeted with little happy sounds and grunts coming from behind the closed door. Opening it slowly I found little hands clinging to the door and a big smile... pretty proud of himself for being in the bathroom by himself.
Katelyn has a little sore on her foot today, so she declared she was sick and needed to be carried. She also couldn't sing, eat or frankly, anything she didn't want to. "I sick." We were driving home in the car and after explaining that she wouldn't be able to play outside and that she'd have to stay in bed, she had a miraculous recovery! With her head tilted to one side, she declared, "I get better!" It's a miracle!
When I get Katelyn out of bed each morning, she frequently tells me what princess character I am. Lately, I'm greeted with, "You're the queen!" She is usually Snow White or Cinderella, but my favorite is Ethan's daily "fairy tale" assignment.
Me: What's Ethan?
Katelyn: Ethan's a frog.
(or today it was...)
Me: What's Ethan?
Katelyn: Ethan's an elephant. (what?)
I was wearing some of Dave's basketball shorts yesterday. Katelyn looked me up and down and said, "You're wearing daddy's clothes!" I agreed and asked if that was okay. "No. You wear mommy's clothes!" There you have it. No more borrowing clothes. Dave will be happy. :)

Are you needing some alone time--as much as you love your kids? I understand.
